Learning to Walk... one thought at a time
My name is Brett Fischer and for the past 10 years I've been serving as a pediatric physical therapist at Reid Hospital and Health Care Services in Richmond, IN. My wife of 11 years, Paige, and I have been walking and hiking together ever since we met. We've always enjoyed the conversations, the exercise and the companionship of a brisk walk around our 4 mile country block. Over the past 4 years we have added a stroller and a bicycle with our two adopted children (Samuel from Bulgaria and Bryce from Indianapolis, IN) and we look forward to adding our third child from Thailand in 2008 to this marathon called family planning.
Almost 9 years ago, I literally stumbled into this practical application of the DISC Personality Profile as a part of a leadership development process in a relationship-based mentoring program for youth. Ever since, I have been utilizing this tool in my professional practice and I became certified as a "Leadership and Advanced Certified Instructor" by Mels Carbonell and the Leadership Institute of America. I continue to discover practical ways the DISC can enhance my understanding of patients and their families. In addition, applying the DISC personality profile to my marriage and family life has enhanced my friendship with my wife and is helping us navigate the early years of parenting our children in their unique, yet diverse, personalities.
My goal with starting Stoicheo is to equip the Healthcare Community to better understand 21st Century American Culture in order to compassionately walk alongside patients and families - leading them to relational restoration and healing.
